Provided is a process for efficiently producing a polarizing film having a high polarizing function. The process for producing a polarizing film comprises causing the first of two or more belt-shaped polyvinyl alcohol films to run in the lengthwise direction, subjecting the first polyvinyl alcohol film in the state of running at least to dyeing and stretching in the running passage, and connecting the back end of the first polyvinyl alcohol resin film to the fore end of the second polyvinyl alcohol resin film to thereby successively subject the first and second polyvinyl alcohol resin films at least to the dyeing and the stretching. The process is characterized in that the connection is accomplished by disposing the films so as to overlap each other at the back and fore ends and fusion-bonding the ends at the interface with a laser.
