Title:
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING PROPYLENE OXIDE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2005/028460
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A process for producing propylene oxide, characterized by comprising the following steps and conducting the distillation in the propylene oxide separation step in such a manner that the total concentration of cumene and ethylbenzene in the distillate from the distillation column is in the range of 0.005 to 5 wt.%. Oxidation step: step in which cumene is oxidized to obtain cumene hydroperoxide Epoxidization step: step in which the cumene hydroperoxide obtained in the oxidation step is reacted with propylene to obtain propylene oxide and cumyl alcohol Propylene recovery step: step in which the unreacted propylene is recovered from the reaction mixture obtained in the epoxidization step Propylene oxide separation step: step in which the liquid resulting from the recovery of the unreacted propylene in the propylene recovery step is distilled to separate propylene oxide
