Title:
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING RUBBER-MODIFIED STYRENE SERIES RESIN
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1981/001291
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Process for producing rubber-modified styrene series resin, which comprises a first step of polymerizing 100 parts by weight of styrene series monomer in the presence of 3 to 15 parts by weight of butadiene polymer and 0 to 0.01 part by weight of an organic peroxide to such degree that the conversion amount of the styrene series monomer to polymer becomes 2 to 5 times as much as that of said butadiene polymer, and a second step of polymerizing the whole polymerization mixture obtained in the first step and 0 to 200 parts by weight of fresh styrene monomer in the presence of 0.01 to 0.9 part by weight of an organic peroxide to such degree that the conversion amount of the styrene monomer to polymer becomes 1.5 times as much as that in the first step. Molded articles of the thus obtained resin have an improved impact strength in portions where polystyrene molecules of the resin are likely to be oriented.
