Title:
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING SPINDLE-SHAPED CALCIUM CARBONATE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2001/049610
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A process for producing spindle-shaped particles of calcium carbonate, in which the calcium carbonate particles are regulated so as to have an average major-axis length of 0.6 to 1.8 $g(m)m. The process comprises adding over a period of 30 minutes or longer a salt of carbonic acid to a calcium hydroxide slurry having a temperature of 10 to 40°C to give an aqueous suspension containing calcium carbonate crystal nuclei, subsequently adding a calcium hydroxide slurry to the suspension, and introducing thereinto a gas comprising carbon dioxide to complete the carbonatation reaction. The salt of carbonic acid is selected from the group consisting of sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, ammonium carbonate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, ammonium hydrogen carbonate, and a mixture of these.
