Abstract:
An industrially suitable process for producing linear dimers of acrylonitrile readily at high efficiency in a high yield by the use of a highly active catalyst excellent in stability without forming any by-product difficult of separation. The above process comprises making acrylonitrile react in the presence of a ruthenium complex composed of a ruthenium atom as the central atom and molecules of cyclopentadiene or a derivative thereof as the ligands. The above process gives adiponitrile, 1,4-dicyanobutene or 1,4-dicyanobutadiene as the product and these dimers are useful as the intermediates of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid which are the raw materials of nylon 66, or the intermediates of rust inhibitors or vulcanization accelerator for rubbers.
