Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for producing a high-activity and high-performance catalyst for use in the production of a methacrylic acid in a steady manner. The process for producing a catalyst for use in the production of methacrylic acid is characterized by comprising: drying a slurry that contains a heteropoly acid salt essentially containing at least one component selected from molybdenum, phosphorus, vanadium, copper, an alkali metal, an alkali earth metal and ammonia as an active ingredient and produced by mixing a compound containing the essential component with water, thereby producing a dried powder; carrying out a step of burning the dried powder in a burning apparatus into which a gas having an absolute humidity of 0.007 to 0.025 kg/kgDA has been introduced; carrying out a catalyst molding step using the burned catalyst component powder in an atmosphere having an absolute humidity of 0.007 to 0.025 kg/kgDA, thereby producing a molded catalyst; and burning the molded catalyst in a burning apparatus into which a gas having an absolute humidity of 0.007 to 0.025 kg/kgDA has been introduced.
