Abstract:
Disclosed are: a cathode electrolyte layer for a fuel cell, which enables the improvement in the rate of utilization of an active site of a catalyst substance having an oxygen reduction activity to thereby achieve high power generation properties; and others.
Specifically disclosed are: a process for producing a cathode catalyst layer for a fuel cell, which comprises a functional group introduction step of introducing a functional group into the surface of a catalyst substance (13) having an oxygen reduction activity and a step of mixing the catalyst substance (13) having the functional group introduced thereinto, the electron-conducting substance and the proton-conducting polymeric electrolyte with one another to produce a catalyst ink for forming a cathode catalyst for a fuel cell; and a cathode catalyst layer for a fuel cell, which comprises a catalyst substance having a functional group introduced into the surface thereof, having an oxygen reduction activity and containing a tantalum element, an electron-conducting substance, and a proton-conducting polymeric electrolyte.
