Abstract:

The present invention aims at providing a process for the production of fluorine-containing polymers whose end groups are stabilized and which are excellent in moldability. The present invention relates to a process for the production of fluorine-containing polymers which comprises melt-kneading a melt-processable fluorine-containing polymer (A) having a specific unstable end group (P) in a kneader provided with a stabilization zone to convert the polymer (A) into a fluorine-containing polymer (B) wherein the specific unstable end group (P) is replaced by -CF₂H, characterized in that the specific unstable end group (P) is alkoxycarbonyl, fluoroalkoxycarbonyl and/or a salt of carboxyl with a quaternary nitrogen compound, that the melt kneading is conducted in the presence or absence of an alkali metal element or an alkaline earth metal element and the mass of the alkali metal element or the alkaline earth metal element is 2ppm or below based on the substance to be melt-kneaded, and that the melt kneading in the stabilization zone is carried out in the presence of a water.
