Title:
PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF NIOBIUM OXIDES AND NIOBIUM MONOXIDE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2008/001774
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The invention relates to a technique for producing efficiently niobium oxides having large specific surface areas and small particles sizes. The process according to the invention is characterized in that the reduction is conducted by reacting a niobium oxide with a water-forming substance to generate water and that the partial pressure of water vapor resulting from the generated water is lowered in the reaction system. It is preferable that the partial pressure of water vapor be lowered by making a partial pressure lowering substance consisting of at least one of carbides, sulfides and nitrides exist in the reaction system. Alternatively, the reduction may be conducted by putting both a niobium oxide having a higher oxidation number and carbon in a hydrogen atmosphere and bringing a hydrocarbon into contact with the niobium oxide in the atmosphere.
