Abstract:
A process for producing an optically active α-amino acid benzyl ester by reacting an optically active α-amino acid with benzyl alcohol in the presence of an acid, wherein the reaction is conducted using substantially no solvent and under reduced pressure while removing water produced during the progress of the reaction by distillation.
