Abstract:
A plant containing a C-glucosyl flavonoid, which is a compound having an excellent physiological activity, at a high content is found among plants that are readily available and highly safe from the viewpoint of oral ingestion, and an orally ingestible composition (particularly, a food, a beverage, or a pharmaceutical preparation) containing the C-glucosyl flavonoid as an active ingredient can be produced.
Thus, disclosed are: a process for producing an orally ingestible composition containing arabinofuranosyl vitexin and/or a hydrolysate thereof, i.e., vitexin, and having a sedative activity and/or a sleep-inducing activity, which is characterized by using a plant Basella alba as a raw material; a food or beverage comprising an orally ingestible composition produced by the process; and a medicinal agent having a sedative activity and/or a sleep-inducing activity, which comprises a composition produced by the process.
