Abstract:
The invention aims at providing an industrially useful process for continuous
production of polyelectrolyte membranes which can realize high ionic conductivity
and high dimensional stability to moisture. A process for continuous production
of polyelectrolyte membranes which comprises the preparation step of dissolving
a polyelectrolyte containing an ionically conductive polymer having ion-exchange
groups in an organic solvent to form a polyelectrolyte solution, the application
step of applying the solution to a substrate by casting to form continuously a
laminated film (1) composed of the substrate and a layer containing the ionically
conductive polymer, and the drying step of passing the laminated film (1) through
a drying oven and thereby removing the organic solvent remaining in the layer
containing the ionically conductive polymer to form continuously a laminated
film (2) composed of the substrate and a polyelectrolyte membrane intermediate,
characterized in that the residence time of the laminated film (1) in the drying
oven is 50 minutes or shorter and that the residual organic solvent concentration
of the polyelectrolyte membrane intermediate constituting the laminated film
(2) is 40wt% or below.
