Abstract:
[PROBLEMS] To provide novel shaped articles with concern for the environment
which can be substituted for plastics articles made of synthetic resins. [MEANS
FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A process for the production of shaped articles of cotton
fiber, characterized by comprising fibrillating cotton fiber so as to give a
mean fiber length of 0.3mm or below, stirring the fibrillated cotton fiber together
with water at a water content of 80 to 90%, and drying and solidifying the resulting
cotton fiber into a shaped article. The shaped articles produced by the process
are made of cotton fiber and do not suffer from the problem of environmental pollution
even when thrown out in the ground, and the process can dispense with the addition
of a solidifying agent such as binder for producing the shaped articles, thus
bringing about simplification in the manufacturing process and a cost reduction.
