Abstract:
Provided is a process by which spherical furfuryl alcohol resin fine particles can be advantageously produced without irradiating the reaction system with ultrasonic waves and without using a harmful aldehyde as a starting material, said process comprising using furfuryl alcohol alone and subjecting the furfuryl alcohol to resinification and curing to form spherical furfury alcohol resin fine particles. More specifically, the process includes: subjecting furfury alcohol to self -condensation with an acid catalyst having a pKa of less than 1.5 in the presence of a protective colloid to resinify the furfuryl alcohol; and then curing the obtained resin by heating to form spherical furfuryl alcohol resin particles.
