Abstract:
Trifluoromethylbenzenesulfonyl chlorides represented by the general formula (3): (3) [wherein X and Y are each independently hydrogen or halogeno] are produced by reacting a benzotrifluoride represented by the general formula (1): (1) [wherein X and Y are each as defined above] with sulfur trioxide to form a sulfonic acid represented by the general formula (2): (2) [wherein X and Y are each as defined above] and then reacting the sulfonic acid with a chlorinating agent. According to the invention, trifluoromethylbenzene- sulfonyl chlorides can be produced in high yield and at high purity.
