Abstract:
A process for the generation of a hydration catalyst for cyclic olefins, i.e., a solid acid catalyst used in the hydration of a cyclic olefin by mixing an aqueous phase containing a solid acid catalyst with an oil phase containing a cyclic olefin, characterized by separating the reaction mixture into an oil phase and an aqueous phase at 40 °C or above and subjecting at least part of the solid acid catalyst contained in the aqueous phase thus separated to regeneration. This process enables effective separation and regeneration of the catalyst used in the hydration of cyclic olefins, thus being effective particularly in conducting the hydration of cyclic olefins over a long period through repeated regeneration and re-use of the catalyst.
