Abstract:
This invention relates to a new enzymatic process for the surface modification of animal fibres using a composition including proteolytic enzymes that are genetically modified so as to increase the molecular weight thereof and decrease diffusion thereof into the fibres. The proteolytic enzymes can be modified by fusing the enzyme coding sequence with the nucleotide sequence coding for a protein-based polymer, the monomeric units of which can be any n-repeated (n > 2) sequences of 4 to 50 natural amino acid residues, or by fusing n repetitions of the enzyme coding sequences, or by fusing the enzyme nucleotide sequence with the nucleotide sequence coding for a peptide with self-aggregating properties. The proteolytic activity is restricted only to the cuticle of the animal fibres, causing the removal of the cuticle and, as a result, improving shrink-resistance in comparison with non-treated animal fibres. This process can be used in the detergent and cosmetic industries.
