Title:
PROCESS FOR UTILIZING AN AMBIENT TEMPERATURE MOLTEN SALT TO PRODUCE RAFFINATE AND PRODUCT CONTAINING PHYTONUTRIENT FROM A VEGETABLE OIL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2016/111611
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for utilizing an ambient temperature molten salt (ATMS) to produce raffinate and product containing phytonutrient from a vegetable oil, the process includes the steps of (a) diluting the ATMS using a polar solvent such as methanol, ethanol and propanol or any combination thereof to produce a diluted ATMS, (b) diluting the vegetable oil using a non-polar solvent such as hexane, heptane, cyclohexane dichloromethane or any combination thereof to produce a diluted vegetable oil, (c) mixing the diluted ATMS and the diluted vegetable oil until organic phase and aqueous phase are formed, (d) extracting phytonutrients from the organic phase into the aqueous phase, (e) removing solvent from the organic phase layer to produce raffinate (f) mixing a mixture of water-hexane to the aqueous layer until two immiscible phases are visible and (g) removing solvent and water from the two immiscible phases to produce phytonutrient product and ATMS.
