Abstract:
A process for producing a lactone which comprises culturing Candida sorbophila in a culture medium containing at least one member selected from the group consisting of hydroxyfatty acids, hydroxyfatty acid derivatives, and hydrolyzates of hydroxyfatty acid derivatives and collecting from the medium the lactone produced. Also provided is a process for producing a lactone which comprises culturing Candida sorbophila in a culture medium containing at least one member selected from the group consisting of hydroxyfatty acids, hydroxyfatty acid derivatives, and hydrolyzates of hydroxyfatty acid derivatives and converting the lactone precursor hydroxyfatty acid produced in the medium into a lactone.
