Abstract:

A process for producing 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-(4-methyl -2-pentenoyl)-2-pyrone by reacting 3-acetyl-4-hydroxy-6- methyl-2-pyrone with isobutyraldehyde in the presence of an azacycloalkane having 4 to 6 carbon atoms and a molecular sieve at 10 to 40 °C; and a process for producing 4-hydroxy -6-methyl-3-(4-methylpentanoyl)-2-pyrone by reducing the 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-(4-methyl-2-pentenoyl)-2-pyrone. According to these processes, active ingredients of insecticides or intermediates for the production of the same can be advantageously produced.
