Abstract:
A processing tool used to finish an end face of a portion of a workpiece into a shape
having a circular arc-like cross-section. The processing tool (30) has a tool
body (31) and an edge (32) provided integrally with the tip of the tool body (31).
The edge (32) has a hemisphere shape having a clearance surface (33) with a substantially
spherical shape and also having a substantially flat rake surface (35) continuing
to the clearance surface (33) with a circular arc-like cutting edge (34) present
between the surfaces. The processing tool (30) finishes a circular arc-like
end face, and during the finishing, the position of engagement of the cutting
edge (34)with the circular arc-like end face is varied in the circumferential
direction with the cutting edge (34) engaged with the end face of the workpiece
in rotation.
