Title:
PRODUCTION OF COATINGS AND PLASTERS BASED ON DETRITED RECYCLED RUBBER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2006/100529
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Production of coatings and plasters based on detrited recycled rubber which has been partly or fully from its alkaline environment so as the final product to be considered stable on commercial selves. This filler, after its modification, reduces the cost of the final paint. The objectives of the invention was to offer an ecologically oriented chemical, using recycled material, easily applied, and stable enough for wide commercial exploitation.

CLAIMS
1. Production method of coatings based on detrited recycled rubber which remain stable for commercial use on store selves. The method is characterized by the addition of detrited recycled rubber which has been fully or partially vitiated by its alkaline environment. Coatings of two component systems especially high solids, and solvent free which the one component had already alkaline behaviour and we add direct detrited recycled rubber.
2. Production method of coatings according to claim 1 where the alkaline treatment of the rubber is done before its addition to the paint (pre neutralized).
3. Production method of coatings according to claim 1 where the neutralization of the rubber is done by the paint itself when its alkalinity is closed to ten (10) (PH+lOapprox.). Production method of coatings according to claims 13 where the average of particle size of detrited recycled rubber used is less than three (3) millimetres.
4. Production method of coatings and plasters according to claims 14 where the detrited recycled rubber is added, accordingly to the final product and its use, in proportion from 2% up to 80%.
5. Coatings and plasters based on detrited recycled rubber which are produced accordingly to the claims' method 15 and are stable on commercial selves.
6. Use of coatings and plasters of claim 6 in applications for thermal and sound insulations, flooring of playgrounds, sport grounds, marine paints, automotive paints.
Description:
DESCRIPTION

PRODUCTION OF COATINGS AND PLASTERS BASED ON DITRITED RECYCLED RUBBER.

The present invention refers to the production of paints based on the addition of a material that has been elaborated and is an important factor to the thermal protection as well as to the anti-slippery behaviour which are needed in various places.

The material added plays the role of functional filler within the paints of this form. The average of particle size used is less than three (3) millimetres.

Until today different types of fillers has been used. Usually fillers that have an inorganic base as their components, apart from those that create opacity and are based on cage CO2 from organic bubble.

The inorganic fillers lack affinity with the organic based resins.

Thus the bigger the amount of the inert substances related to the resin the less quality the paint bares. The same does not happen with the detrited recycled rubber which is organic filler. The detrited recycled rubber can be used for the production of paints in various proportions and especially from 2% up to 80% on weight measure related to the final product ready to be used. The binder resin can be of water based or solvent based as the rest additional and fillers are the usual ones that we use in the common paints.

The procedure for the production of such paints is based on the bounden need of neutralization, that the detrited recycled rubber demands, from organic or inorganic based solutions like NaOH, DMEA, TEA, melamine e.t.c. The amount of base that is needed for the neutralization of the acid behaviour can be measured with following equation: weight of neutralization's reaction agent = (W*A*EN*D)/1000*Eq.Wt.of Base W = weight of polymer as base

A = acidity degree of the polymer base (mg KOH/g)

EN = equivalent weight of the eliminated reaction agent

D = neutralization percentage

After eliminating base solutions from the detrited recycled rubber we can remove either the nullification water used or the excessive amount of base through draining with a drainage sieve.

The neutralized solution of the detrited recycled rubber is the one that is added to the resin - emulsion - so as to, along with the other components, results in the final paint form. The neutralization can be carried out by the paint itself if the alkaline environment (PH) of the produced paint is closed ten (10) (PH+10).

Resins can be acrylic, vinyl, polyurethanes, epoxies, water or solvent based as well as modified classifications.

The detrited recycled rubber can also be applied to water based systems of two (2) components and under the process of neutralization to coexist either with component A or component B. The detrited recycled rubber can also be applied to solvent based systems or solvent free of two components system and when we have one component A or B with alkaline behaviour it's not necessary to pre neutralized.

Furthermore the phase of addition of detrited recycled rubber does not need to follow a specific line in the production procedure.

With this method the produces paints of detrited recycled rubber have storage stability and thus can be easily transferred to the commercial network. Until recently several companies have tried to offer detrited recycled rubber but always as a separate substance that was added before use. We haven' t same problems in plasters because the cement products have strongly alkaline environment when we add detrited rubber. Aiming in improving ecologically performance like thermal protection, water impermeability, anti-slipperiness, this invention is being offered in order to be used in insulation, flooring of playgrounds, sport grounds, marine paints.
