PRODUCTION METHOD FOR HOT-ROLLED TITANIUM PLATE

This method is for producing a titanium plate by hot-rolling a titanium slab directly produced by use of an electron beam melting method or a plasma arc melting method. In this method, when a surface of the titanium slab to be rolled during hot-rolling is defined as a to-be-rolled surface, and a surface parallel to the rolling direction and perpendicular to the to-be-rolled surface is defined as a lateral surface, [1] at least a portion, of the lateral surface of the titanium slab, on the to-be-rolled surface side is melted by performing irradiation of the lateral surface with a beam or plasma rather than irradiation of the to-be-rolled surface with a beam or plasma, and then, the melted portion is solidified again, thereby forming, on the lateral surface, a structure layer having a circle equivalent grain diameter of at most 1.5 mm and having a depth of at least 3.0 mm from the lateral surface, [2] finishing treatment is performed on the to-be-rolled surface of the titanium slab on which the fine grain structure layer has been formed, so as to adjust a slab flatness index X to 3.0 or lower, and [3] hot-rolling of the titanium slab having undergone the finishing treatment is performed, under a condition in which a roll contact arc length L of the first rough-rolling pass is 230 mm or longer.
