Abstract:
A production method for a nut 5 used in a ball screw comprising a screw shaft 3 that has a helical ball rolling groove 3a formed on the outer peripheral surface thereof, the nut 5 that has a helical ball rolling groove 5a formed on the inner peripheral surface thereof, said ball rolling groove 5a facing the ball rolling groove 3a of the screw shaft 3, and a plurality of balls 9 that are disposed in a ball rolling passage 7 formed by both the ball rolling grooves 3a, 5a, wherein the nut 5 has, on the inner peripheral surface thereof, a ball circulation groove 20 for returning the balls 9 to the start point from the end point of the ball rolling passage 7, said production method characterized in that: at a ball circulation groove formation step for forming the ball circulation groove 20, the ball circulation groove 20 and a phase reference S are simultaneously formed on a blank M of the nut 5 by plastic working; and a ball rolling groove formation step for forming the ball rolling groove 5a by using the phase reference S is performed.
