Abstract:
Regarding a method for producing a prepreg that is obtained by applying a matrix resin to a fiber reinforced sheet, the present invention addresses the problem of providing a prepreg production method by which continuously travel can be performed without involving jamming of a generated fluff even when the travel speed is high, and by which a fiber reinforced sheet can be efficiently impregnated with a matrix resin. The present invention uses a prepreg production method comprising causing a fiber reinforced sheet to substantially, vertically downward pass through the inside of a coating part in which a matrix resin is reserved, so as to obtain a matrix resin-impregnated fiber reinforced sheet in which the matrix resin has been applied to the fiber reinforced sheet, and subsequently, heating at least the matrix resin-impregnated fiber reinforced sheet, wherein: the coating part is provided with a liquid reservoir section and a constriction section which are connected to each other; the liquid reservoir section has a portion the cross-sectional area of which continuously decreases along the travel direction of the fiber reinforced sheet; the constriction section has a slit-shaped cross section, and has a cross-sectional area smaller than that of the upper surface of the liquid reservoir section; the distance N from an outlet of the coating part to a heating start point of the matrix resin-impregnated fiber reinforced sheet is 1 m or shorter; and, at a heating end point, a surface temperature P2 (°C) of the matrix resin-impregnated fiber reinforced sheet is equal to or higher than the temperature M (°C) of the matrix resin reserved in the coating part (expression 1).
