Provided is programmable control technology which also executes self-diagnostic processing with a single loop of a short period. A CPU (20) which is mounted upon this programmable control device is provided with: a signal processing unit (22) which sequentially processes an input external signal (16) on the basis of a program upon memory (15); a data acquisition unit (26) which acquires data from an nth block specified among a plurality of blocks which are formed by dividing regions of the memory (15); a diagnostic unit (30A) which, on the basis of the acquired data, diagnoses the soundness of the nth block and promotes processing of the next external signal (16); and a block specification unit (25) which, after processing the next external signal (16), diagnoses the soundness of the (n+1)th block.
