Abstract:
A projection device and projection video display device that allow optical-system miniaturization and make it possible to display a plurality of videos and make speckles unobtrusive. Said projection device (20) has: optical elements (50) including a plurality of light-diffusion elements (55-1 to 55-3) that can diffuse light; an illumination device (60) that shines a plurality of reproduction light beams (La1 to La3) on the optical elements such that each reproduction light beam scans the corresponding light-diffusion element; spatial light modulators (30-1 to 30-3) illuminated by the respective reproduction light beams that are emitted by the illumination device and incident upon and diffused by the light-diffusion elements; and projection optical systems (25-1 to 25-3) that project modulated images, obtained from the respective spatial light modulators, onto corresponding screens. For each light-diffusion element, the reproduction light beams incident upon and diffused by each part of said light-diffusion element illuminate the corresponding spatial light modulator in an overlapping manner.
