Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is to provide a projection display device and projection control method with which conditions in the direction of progress can be grasped accurately even when the line of sight of a driver changes in a complicated manner. This projection display device is provided with: a projection display unit that includes a light source (41r, 41g, 41b), a light modulation element (44) that spatially modulates the light emitted from the light source, and a projection unit (50) that uses the light spatially modulated by the light modulation element as projection light which is projected on a projection surface (2) that is mounted to a vehicle; a sightline detection unit (70) that detects the line of sight of the driver of the vehicle; and a system control unit (60) that controls the projection conditions of the projection light bound for the projection surface to adhere to a first condition when the line of sight detected by the sightline detection unit is outside the projection surface, and changes the projection conditions of the projection light bound for the projection surface to a second condition, in which the visibility of an image based on the projection light is higher than in the first condition, when it is determined that the line of sight has moved inside the projection surface from outside the projection surface.
