Abstract:
A polarized light conversion element (140) is adapted to convert all the light in a random polarized direction into s-polarized light and output the same polarized light. Linear polarized light to be modulated is introduced into three liquid crystal light bulbs (250, 251, 254), and p-polarized green light and s-polarized red light and blue light into a cross-dichroic prism (260). Accordingly, $g(l)/2 phase plates (310, 312) are respectively provided on optical paths on the front side of, for example, first and third liquid crystal light bulbs (250, 254). The $g(l)/2 phase plates can be disposed in various positions on optical paths between dichroic mirrors (210, 212) and the cross-dichroic prism (260).
