Abstract:
This projection-type display device is provided with: a reflective image display element that emits an image light via reflection upon an illuminated image display face; a prism unit that bends the light path of the image light emitted from the image display element; and a projection optical system that projects the image light emitted from the prism unit onto a screen. The image display face comprises a plurality of micromirrors. An image is formed by ON/OFF-controlling the slope of each micromirror face in the image display face and modulating the intensity of the illumination light. The prism unit has an air gap inclined at a predetermined angle relative to the main light beam of the image light emitted from the center of the image display face, and the image light emitted from the image display element is transmitted through the air gap. The projection optical system includes a diaphragm that has a non-circular opening having a shape in which the peripheral portion of a circular opening is partially notched with an arched light-blocking part. The image light corresponding to the end on the side having a large angle of incidence relative to the air gap in an F-number luminous flux is blocked by the light-blocking part, which satisfies a predetermined condition.
