Abstract:
Provided are: a projection-type display device capable of preventing objects from adhering to a cover that closes an opening of a case; and an operation method and operation program therefor. An HUD 100 comprises: a case 3 housing an optical modulation unit that spatially modulates light emitted from a light source; a projection optical system housed in the case 3 and projecting spatially modulated light on to a windshield 2 of an automobile 1, through the opening K formed in the case 3; a cover 9 covering the opening K; a movable protective member 11 for protecting the cover 9; a drive unit 10 that drives the protective member; and an object detection unit 12 that detects objects approaching the surface of the cover 9. The drive unit 10 moves the protective member 11 to above the cover 9 and covers the cover 9 by using the protective member 11, if the object detection unit 12 has detected an object, and retracts the protective member 11 from above the cover 9 and exposes the cover if the object detection unit 12 has not detected an object.
