Abstract:
This projection type display device (1) comprises: a projection optical system (10A) including an illumination unit (11), a projection lens (16), and a light valve (12) for modulating illumination light supplied from the illumination unit on the basis of a video signal and emitting the modulated light toward the projection lens (16); a polarization separating element (15) which is disposed between the light valve and the projection lens and is for separating incident light into a first and a second polarization component while emitting the respective components in mutually different directions; and a detection optical system (10B) including the imaging element (13) disposed at a position optically conjugate with the light valve, and an optical reduction system (14) disposed between an imaging element and the polarization separation element. The light based on invisible light for detection is incident on the imaging element through the projection lens and the polarization separating element. A transmittance adjustment member for adjusting the transmittance of at least a part of the pass-through luminous flux of the invisible light is provided between the polarization separating element and the imaging element.
