Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a projector which eliminates the uneven temperature distribution in the direction perpendicular to the optical axis of a projection lens (the uneven temperature distribution in the circumferential direction of the lens barrel) and can suppress reduction in quality of projected images, and to provide an image degradation preventing method for said projector. A projection lens (15) comprises a lens barrel (36) for holding lenses. By arranging an image forming panel offset with respect to the optical axis of the projection lens, the temperature rise becomes greater in a second portion (36B) disposed to the side to which the image forming panel is shifted relative to the optical axis of the projection lens, and the rise in temperature decreases in a first portion (36A) disposed to the opposite side. A lens barrel heating optical unit (16) comprises a first mirror (41), a condensing lens (43) and a second mirror (44). The lens barrel heating optical unit irradiates the excess light reflected by a color wheel (32) towards the first portion of the lens barrel. By heating the first portion with the excess light, the temperature distribution in the circumferential direction of the lens barrel becomes even, preventing deterioration in the performance of the projected images.
