Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a projector that more suitably generates white light from a laser light source, and uses the white light for displaying an image. To achieve the purpose, the projector comprises: a white light generation unit that uses a blue laser as a light source to generate blue light and yellow light on the basis of the blue laser, thereby generating white light including the generated blue light and yellow light; and an optical system that modulates the light based on the white light generated by the white light generation unit using a video display element and projects the modulated light. The white light generation unit includes: a dichroic mirror whereon the blue light is emitted from the blue laser as the light source; a first condenser lens that focuses the blue light reflected by or transmitted through the dichroic mirror; a diffuser panel for diffusing the blue light focused by the first condenser lens; a second condenser lens that focuses the blue light transmitted through or reflected by the dichroic mirror; and a phosphor emitting yellow light by being irradiated with the blue light focused by a second condenser lens. The dichroic mirror includes: a first region that transmits either blue light or yellow light and reflects the other, or reflects either blue light or yellow light and transmits the other; and a second region that reflects or transmits both blue light and yellow light. The blue light included in the white light output from the white light generation unit is obtained from the blue light that is diffused by the diffuser panel, transmitted through the first condenser lens, and reflected by or transmitted through the dichromic mirror, and the yellow light included in the white light output from the white light generation unit is obtained from the yellow light that is emitted by the phosphor, transmitted through the second condenser lens, and reflected by or transmitted through the dichromic mirror.
