Abstract:
A protection element capable of cutting off a current path safely and promptly with hardly any sparks even when a high voltage is applied thereto and a battery pack using the protection element are provided. The protection element has: an insulated substrate 2; a fuse element 3; a heat-generating body 4 for fusing the fuse element 3 by generating heat; a heat-generating body feeding electrode 5 serving as a feeding terminal for supplying power to the heat-generating body 4; an insulating layer 6 covering the heat-generating body 4; and a heat-generating body lead-out electrode 7 formed on the insulating layer 6 along the heat-generating body 4 and holding a fusible conductor 3a of the fuse element 3. When the heat-generating body 4 is energized, the heat-generating body feeding electrode 5 side of the heat-generating body 4 is used as a high-potential section and the heat-generating body lead-out electrode 7 side is used as a low-potential section. An overlapping area of the heat-generating body lead-out electrode 7 where a tip portion 7a thereof extending over the high-potential section side of the heat-generating body 4 overlaps with the heat-generating body 4 is smaller than an overlapping area where a base portion 7b thereof extending over the low-potential section side of the heat-generating body 4 overlaps with the heat-generating body 4.
