Abstract:
Disclosed is a protrusion detection device that that detects a protrusion (305) on the surface (300) of a traveling metal object. Said protrusion detection device is provided with: a transmission antenna (23) that radiates electromagnetic waves; a reception antenna (24) that receives reflected electromagnetic waves; and a transmission/reception signal processing unit (200) that processes the transmission signal and the received signal. The transmission antenna (23) and the reception antenna (24) are unidirectional, and the reception antenna (24) is installed so as to capture only electromagnetic waves that radiate from the transmission antenna (23) and reflect off the protrusion (305), not electromagnetic waves that radiate from the transmission antenna (23) and reflect off the surface (300) of the metal object.
