Title:
PROVIDING A COUNTER TORQUE FORCE WITHIN A FASTENING
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/129698
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A washer body 6 bearing hardened balls in apertures 16 in the washer body 6 provides a counter-torque resistance in a fastening 2. The hardened balls form projections 10 that indent the underside of a fastener head 3 and an adjacent fastening joint surface 8 during tightening of the fastening 2 to prevent rotation of the fastener head 3 while a nut 7 is driven to tighten or loosen the fastening 2. A reservoir portion 17 of the apertures 16 in the washer 6 around the balls receives the material displaced during indention to allow full contact of the washer 6 with the fastener head 3 and joint surface 8. The hardened balls provide point loads for ready indentation upon minimal loading to prevent rotation of the fastener, obviating the need for a counter-torque wrench.
