Abstract:
A publicly accessible drop box (10) for isolating items (19) deposited therein, includes a securable enclosure (12), a depository port (14), a closeable container (18) having an opening (30) and located within the securable enclosure (12), and a closure device (34) for closing the opening (30) prior to removal of the container (18). The depository port (14) may include a housing (50) forming a reception chamber (52) having an entrance (56), wherein the housing (50) is rotatably mounted within the drop box (10). The drop box (10) may include a view port (90) to allow viewing of the opening (30) of the closeable container (18). The drop box (10) may include a manipulation device (22) extending into the securable enclosure (12) to enable manipulation of the closure device (34) or to enable movement of any items in proximity to the opening (30) of the container (18).
