Title:
PUCK-BASED POINTING DEVICE THAT PROVIDES MULTIPLE BUTTONS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2006071355
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A pointing device[80,200] having a puck[95] that is confined to move in a field of motion on a surface and that provides pointing and clicking functions analogous to those off a conventional mouse is disclosed. The puck[95] has first and second members[191, 192] that are spaced apart from one another by a resilient spacer[71] when no force is applied between the members. The puck[95] includes a tilt mechanism[84, 192, 284] for allowing the first and second members[191, 192] to assume a tilted configuration with respect to one another in response to a force being applied between the first and second members[191, 192]. A position detector[59, 393] determines the position of the puck[95] in the puck field of motion and a tilt position of the first member[191]with respect to the second member[192]. The determined tilt position is used to emulate two or more switches that are actuated by varying the tilt position.
