Abstract:
Pulse detonation engine (2) for the combustion of a mixture of biogas and hydrogen, comprising a valve assembly (16) and a combustion chamber (27) connected to the valve assembly (16). The valve assembly (16) comprises a suction diffuser (17), a fuel supply tube (23), a baffle (18), an air curtain (19) with perforations (31, 32) for supplying air, a support plate (22) and a valve (20) with shutters (33). The shutters (33) of the valve (20) are bendable such that in a closed position of the valve (20), the shutters (33) are adjacent to the air curtain (19), thus overlapping the perforations (31, 32) and blocking air supply into the combustion chamber (27) as well as expansion of flue gases into the suction diffuser (17), and in an open position of the valve (20), the shutters (33) are adjacent to the support plate (22), thereby leaving the perforations (31, 32) open and allowing air to flow into the combustion chamber (27). Also disclosed are a biogas energy recovery unit, comprising the pulse detonation engine (2), and a method of combustion of a mixture of biogas and hydrogen in the pulse detonation engine (2) or in the biogas energy recovery unit.
