Abstract:
A compact low-cost ballast water purification apparatus that is capable of annihilating
microorganisms present in ballast water with minimal ozone consumption, thereby
inhibiting useless consumption of ozone. The ballast water purification apparatus
is adapted to perform the filtration/ozonization operation (A) of branching
part of filtrate water resulting from filtration in a filtration section, injecting
ozone into the branched filtrate water in an ozone injection section and causing
the ozonized filtrate water to join the unbranched filtrate water; the filtration-trapped
matter sterilizing operation (B) of causing the ozonized filtrate water after
ozone injection to flow back to the filtration section and annihilate any trapped
plankton and the countercurrent washing operation (C) of applying countercurrent
washing means for feeding washing water from a downstream side of the filtration
section and discharging any trapped matter of the filtration section outside
the system, while sequentially switching these filtration/ozonization operation,
filtration-trapped matter sterilizing operation and countercurrent washing
operation.
