Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a purification method for separating impurities from a carboxyl-containing polyoxyethylene derivative having a molecular weight of 2,000 to 100,000. This purification method includes: a step of dissolving the polyoxyethylene derivative in five or more times as much solvent as the polyoxyethylene derivative by mass to form a solution, said solvent being toluene, xylene, benzene, ethyl acetate or butyl acetate; a step of adding 0.5 to 10 times as much inorganic adsorbent as the polyoxyethylene derivative by mass to the solution to form a slurry, said inorganic adsorbent containing an oxide of one ore more elements selected from the group consisting of magnesium, silicon and aluminum and/or a hydroxide of one or more elements selected therefrom; a step of stirring the slurry at a temperature of 25°C or higher; a step of adding a solvent selected from among toluene, xylene, benzene, ethyl acetate and butyl acetate to the filter cake obtained by filtering the resulting slurry, and subjecting the obtained mixture to further filtration; a step of adding five or more times as much alcohol as the polyoxyethylene derivative by mass to the obtained filter cake, said alcohol being methanol, ethanol or 2-propanol; and a step of subjecting the obtained mixture to filtration, and recovering the polyoxyethylene derivative from the obtained filtrate.
