Abstract:

The invention provides pyridine derivatives useful as intermediates in the production of drugs, pesticides, electrophotographic photoreceptors, dyes, or the like, more specifically, novel pyridyltetrahydropyridines and novel pyridylpiperidines; and a process for the production of the pyridine derivatives which comprises reacting a bipyridine derivative with a benzyl halide or a benzyloxycarbonyl halide and reducing the obtained product by the use of a palladium catalyst, a platinum catalyst, a ruthenium catalyst, or a rhodium catalyst.
