A quick charging identification method and a terminal device, which are applied in the technical field of mobile communications. The method is applied to a terminal device supporting at least two quick-charging protocols, comprising: controlling a non-quick charging access point at charging interfaces D+ and D- of a terminal device to connect to an external charging device, and determining whether the type of the external charging device is a DCP mode (101); if so, then controlling a quick-charging access point at D+ and D- to connect to the external charging device (102); the terminal device carries out a handshake with the external charging device according to a preset quick charging protocol handshake sequence, and if the handshake is successful, then taking the current quick charging protocol which has had a successful handshake as a target quick charging protocol, and controlling the external charging device to enter into an HVDCP charging mode, so as to carry out charging according to the target quick charging protocol (103). The present method can be compatible with a variety of quick charging protocols, reducing limitations of terminal devices when using quick charging technologies.
