Title:
QUICK FRONT CLAMPING SYSTEM FOR REVERSIBLE CLAMPING OF BENDING TOOLS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2004/071688
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The application describes a reversible and quick front clamping system for bending tools (P) that adopts a system of double front (01) and rear (02) bars. As the clamping has to be done over the front bar (01) for safety reasons, independently from the fact that the tool has to be turned to the front (P) or to the back (Pi), the clamping system includes some intermediate bars (03) with a thickness identical to that of the tool tang. These intermediate bars are set in an unbalanced way in relation to the screw (04). This way, the bars swing-up automatically by simply inserting/removing the bending tool from the clamping device.

CLAIMS
1. a Reversible and quick clamping, of bending tools characterized by integrating a clamping bar system (01 and 02) on each side of the machine tang (06) used as a tooling ,. guide and that enables its mounting in the normal position .,, \. (P) or in the reverse one (Pi), with the proper fixing always ensured from the operator's side (front side). 2a Reversible and quick clamping of bending tools'according'to the previous claim, characterized by the fact that the two clamping bars (01 and 02) are connected by a screw (04) that goes through the tang used as tooling guide, being the clamping bars separated from the tooling guide by intermediate bars (03).
2. 3a Reversible and quick clamping of bending tools according to the previous claims, characterized by the fact that there are intermediate bars (03) set in an unbalanced way in relation to the screw (04) mentioned in claim.
3. that those are mounted between the clamping bars and the tang mentioned in that same claim 2.
4. Reversible and quick clamping of bending tools according to the previous claim, characterized by the fact that the bars are dimensioned in such a way that they can swingup, every time the tool is inserted on that side of the bar for clamping. 5a Reversible and quick clamping of bending tools according to the previous cXaim n° 3, characterized by the fact that the bars ate made. in such a way that they descend on the side that holds no tooling, thus helping on the quick clamping function. 6a Reversible and quick clamping of bending tools according to the previous claims, characterized by the fact that it can receive the direct clamping on the appropriate screw (04) or, indirectly, by means of quick systems of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical or hydraulic (A). AMENDED CLAIMS [Received by the International Bureau on 22 July 2004 (22.07. 2004) ; original claim 16, replaced by new claims 14] 1. Quick tront clamping system for reversible clamping of bending tools characterized by the fact of integrating intermediate bars (03) set in an unbalanced way in relation to the screw (04) that positions the front (01) and rear (02) bar in relation to the fixing tang (06).
5. 2 Quick front clamping system for reversible clamping of bending tools according to the previous claim characterized by the fact the bars are dimensioned in such a way that they can swingup every time the tool is inserted on that side of the bar for clamping.
6. 3 Quick front clamping system for reversible clamping of bending tools according to the previous claims characterized by the fact that the bars are made in such a way that they descend on the side that holds no tooling, thus helping on the quick clamping function regardless of the side the tooling is mounted (P) or (Pi).
7. 4 Quick front clamping system for reversible clamping of bending tools according to the previous claims characterized by the fact that it can receive the direct clamping just on one point, or on the appropriate screw (04) or, indirectly, by means of quick systems of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical or hydraulic (A) that pivot on the screw (04). STATEMENT UNDER ARTICLE 19 (1) According to Article 19 (1), the following is an explanatory of the amendments done: The claims 1,2, and 3 were replaced by new claim 1. The previous claims 1 and 2 were more an introduction to the invention than a real claim. The new claim 1 is just an adaptation of the previous claim 3 by modifying the title and by adapting the text in order to prevent any references to previous claims. Claims 2 to 4 are just an adaptation of the previous claims 4 to 6 by modifying the title. Concerning the documents considered to be relevant, Patent abstract of Japan, JP 62212019A (Amada Co Ltd) of the 18th September 1987, the abstract and figures refer to the invention of a clamping system to improve productivity. The overall layout is general for that patent and for the bending tool attachment. This layout has been put in PCT/PT2004/000003 previous claims 1 and 2 as an introduction to the invention put now in the claim 1 of the PCT/PT2004/000003 (previous claim 3), that is, integrating special intermediate bars (03) set in an unbalanced way to ease on front or reverse tooling mounting and its clamping by acting directly on a single pointscrew (04)or indirectlysee claim 4 of PCT/PT2004/000003. In the document above there is also the integration of a handle 77 and the spacer 79 is just a spacer that has to be put in or removed while on our invention the intermediate bars (03) are automatically put in position or recessed from position by the tooling introduction. Relating to document EPO 630 699 A (Amada Metrecs) the invention and figures 2 and 7 refer to a clamping mechanism with adjusting device 13 and a wedge system 17 that can clamp the tooling on the front position (fig. 2) or reverse position (fig. 7). It requires the action on bolt 69see column 10, lines 5354different from front bolts 33 (see fig. 3) while what is claimed in PCT/PT2004/000003 as invention is the fact that by integrating intermediate bars (03) set in an unbalanced way, the applicant just act directly on a single screw (04) or indirectlysee claim 4 of PCT/PT2004/000003. In conclusion, to the knowledge of the applicant, there is no doubt that the claimed invention is new and does not form part of any of the prior art references.
Description:
DESCRIPTION QUICK FRONT CLAMPING SYSTEM FOR REVERSIBLE CLAMPING OF BENDING TOOLS The present innovations refers to a reversible and quick front clamping system of bending, tools normally mounted in machines that can be, among others, press brakes and folders.

In these machines the operator is normally positioned at the front. Whenever the tools are changed, the fixing of their position has to be done from the front for safety'reasons.- These tools should be mounted turned to the front or to the back due to job suitability : To ensure this reversible front clamping in a quick and safe way, the clamping system of this invention (fig. 1) is characterized for having two bars, one at the front (01) and one at the rear (02), connected between themselves by a screw (04) that goes through the tool support body, connected to one of the machine parts and normally called beam (on the press brakes) or beam and holddown (on the folders).

There are some intermediate bars (03) placed between the clamping bars (01) and (02) and the tang (06) to mount the tools that are set in an unbalanced way in relation to the screw (4).

When there is no tool, the heaviest part of the bars (03) falls making bars (01) and (02) parallel to the tang (06) (fig. rear part). Thus, when the tool is set in one of the sides, the bars (03) located on that side turn, swing-up and are embedded in the space that goes from the top of the tool tang (P) to the support body (06) (fig. 1-front part).

So, independently from the position where the tool is mounted, its clamping can be done always from the front of the machine by means of the bars (03) that fill in the space between the clamping bars (01) or (02) and the support body (06) when there is no tool (P).

This clamping system can be used with quick clamping systems by lever (A-fig. 1 and 2) electric, pneumatic or hydraulic (fig. 3 e 4). A. DIAS RAMOS-Maquinas-Ferramentas, Lda
