Abstract:
Provided is a rack bar (10) which is formed by die-forging a blank having a substantially circular transverse cross-section and which transmits steering operation to steered wheels by converting the rotational movement of a pinion shaft to axial movement, the pinion shaft rotating in coordination with a steering wheel. A pair of tooth width increasing sections (15) is provided at the opposite ends of each rack tooth (14) in the tooth width direction. This configuration enables the width (W) of the rack teeth (14) to be greater than the outer shape (S) of the circular cross-section of a rack body (13)(blank), and as a result, the meshing ratio between the rack teeth (14) and the pinion shaft is improved.
