Abstract:
A rack and pinion-type steering device where pinion teeth whose specifications except the pressure angle are appropriately set under a large pressure angle is constructed to enable smooth and excellent steering feeling to be achieved for a long period. The module m of a pinion gear (4), number of teeth z, height h of a tooth, and helix angle β are set in the below described ranges under a pressure angle &agr set in the range of 24º≤&agr ≤30º and under a given stroke ratio. Module, m: 1.8≤m≤2.0 Number of teeth, z: 7≤z≤13 Height of tooth, h: 2m≤h≤2.5m Helix angle, β: β≤35º
