Abstract:

A radial gap motor comprising a base (10), a shaft (14), a stator frame (12), a plurality of electromagnet units (19), bearings (11A, 11B), a rotor frame (13), a plurality of permanent magnet units (19), bearings (11A, 11B), a rotor frame (13), a plurality of permanent magnet units (18) a rotary encoder (17), and a drive unit (22) for detecting that a permanent magnet unit (18) has reached a specified angle from a position where the pole of the electromagnet unit (19) substantially faces the pole of the permanent unit (18) based on the output from the rotary encoder (17) and supplying an exciting current to the electromagnet unit (19) such that the pole of the electromagnet unit (19) and the pole of the permanent magnet unit (18) repel electromagnetically by 20°, for example, from the detected angle, wherein the center line of a field passing through the center of pole of the electromagnet unit (19) intersects the center line of a field passing through the center of pole of the permanent magnet unit (18) at a specified angle.
