Provided is an imaging device or an imaging system which is able to cut the time from the commencement of radiation irradiation to the acquisition of a preview image. A radiation imaging device for imaging a radiation image of a photographic subject and having a pixel array in which multiple pixels are arranged in a matrix, and a control unit for controlling the reading operation for reading the electric signals transferred from the pixel array, wherein the control unit controls so that a first reading operation and a second reading operation are carried out, the first reading operation being an operation for reading electric signals for verifying the imaging quality of the radiation image of the photographic subject from some of the pixels in the pixel array during a radiation irradiation period in which the pixel array is irradiated with radiation, and the second reading operation being an operation for reading electric signals for imaging the radiation image of the photographic subject from the pixel array after the radiation irradiation period.
