Description:
Radiophone The invention relates to a device like radiophone.

The use of radiophones has been increasing fast lately.

Nokia Mobile Phones among others manufactures these phones in Finland.

A mobile phone is often handled roughly and the electromag- netic environment may affect its operation.

Presently phones have usually a plastic enclosure and in- side they have a chassis, which is made from light alloy.

Against external interference plastic enclosures of devices is often coated with metal or some conductive filler mate- rial like graphite has been mixed with the plastic mate- rial.

Despite of this enclosures of radiophones does not tolerate hard mechanical stress and one must improve the electromag- netic shielding by implementing internal shields made from metal which increases manufacturing costs.

An arrangement of the invention is capable to solve the problems described above.

Objects of the invention are accomplished by what is set forth in more detail in claim 1 and in the subclaims.

The invention is described in following with reference to the attached drawings, wherein: Figure 1 shows a radiophone of the invention.

Figure 1 shows a radiophone RP of the invention. The enclo- sure ENCL1 and ENCL2 is made from titanium or from alloy containing titanium. As an example the figure shows that the enclosure is constructed from two parts, which closes a volume wherein one has placed for example a plastic support body SB, which may have several separate parts and may be

made from several materials and an electronics unit EU, which also may consist several subunits.

In addition the device includes a power source as fox exam- ple a battery B. In order ENCL1, ENCL2 to serve as an elec- tromagnetic shield it is beneficial to connect them for ex- ample to so called ground of EU or that said connection takes place at least via some impedance. The connection may take place via galvanic contact, via capacitance or via in- ductance or via some combination of mentioned coupling modes In order to be able to transmit signal energy and to re- ceive signal energy via radio waves RP includes also an an- tenna A. The enclosure ENCL1, ENCL2 may be a part of the antenna arrangement, as for example as a ground plane re- quired by a whip or helix antenna or one may connect to it the radio frequency transmitter of the phone and construct mechanically and by using dielectric materials a slit or loop antenna arrangement Compared to the known level of technology the solution has many benefits: Titanium is inert metal, which in the con- struction serves as a shield against mechanical and chemi- cal stresses. Corrosion is minimal. One may coat titanium in several ways, which makes the product attractive.

Titanium acts also as a shield against electromagnetic in- terference. The thermal conductivity of titanium is not very good, so the enclosure does not feel cold even out- doors and one may cover those parts, which will be contact- ing skin even with plastic. Titanium does not provoke al- lergy. RP with titanium enclosure will represent the high- est quality level of radiophones already due to the high imago of titanium. Because of this one may ask higher price for the product. The durability of titanium enables also a construction where EU will be changed partially or com- pletely as electronics is developing. In this way RP of a

person will have continuously the same outlook but will be technically at the edge of the development. Hence, RP of the invention reaches similar position as a personal acces- sory as high-level wristwatches. This may be even more em- phasized by engraving identification information of the owner in the cover ENCL1, ENCL2, for this purpose one may reserve a suitable area.

Covers ENCL1, ENCL2 one may market also with various coat- ings, so a customer may combine different colors. In this way the outlook of the device may be changed easily.

The enclosure ENCL1, ENCL2 may be also a part of the an- tenna means A of RP. One may arrange a slot in the enclo- sure, over which one has generated an electric field, which radiates. On the other hand an electric field over the slot may be detected by the receiver means of RP: One may also make constructions where an electric current may flow and generate radiation. These means may also detect magnetic field, which is passing through them.

ENCL1 and ENCL2 may simply act as a part of the ground plane of the antenna means A. Then one may for example place a transmission line or strip line, below which the enclosure serves as a ground plane.

The invention is not limited to the above embodiments but a plurality of modifications can be considered plausible within the scope of the annexed claims.
